The Best Friends™ Approach

Elevating Exceptional Care to New Heights

At Bridgepointe at Ashgrove Woods, we employ The Best Friends™ Approach to care, an internationally recognized model of care that is designed to create the best possible days for residents.

At the heart of The Best Friends™ Approach is the understanding that relationships are very important in providing compassionate care. These relationships require the essential elements of friendship:

  • Respect
  • Empathy
  • Support
  • Trust
  • Humor

These are the building blocks for our program. Our care is completely person-centered and flexible enough to adapt to each individual’s strengths and abilities.

At Bridgepointe, we understand that exceptional care begins with the acknowledgement of a person’s life story. This is especially important in our Memory Care neighborhood, as residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia often can no longer tell us their histories. Our care team must become their biographers, even if that means becoming a good detective. The more a care provider knows about the person they're caring for, the more he or she can use their life story to improve interactions between them and the memory care they give.

The experienced staff and volunteers at Bridgepointe at Ashgrove Woods are extensively trained in The Best Friends™ Approach. They work individually with our residents to learn their life stories and become “Best Friends!” They know how to emphasize strengths and abilities, encourage residents to participate in meaningful and fun activities and, ultimately, bring out the best in our residents.

Our strong emphasis on relationships creates the loving nature found in our community, bringing residents, family members, staff and volunteers together as neighbors and friends.
